My 10 Best

(In no particular order)

Many Lives, Many Masters

I read this book when I was 26 years old and had recently been arranged to marry. I began having dreams, or memories, of the man that was to be my husband. However, within the dreams he did not look like himself; nor did I. Yet, I deeply felt the relation. I also saw the turmoil and circumstances that existed. In an attempt to reconcile what I was experiencing, I began reading past life work and found Dr. Brian Weis’s book, where one of his patients began recalling past-life traumas and how they played out in her current experience. This was my first real ‘aha’ exposure to spirituality, and an opening to learn more. I actually contacted the psychic (Iris) listed at the end of the book; she confirmed my memories, relaying them to me without my sharing anything.

The Return of the Feminine and the World Soul

There came moments when I could not see beyond my world. And yet I knew what I was going through was larger than me. I inherently believe that we each experience life — the ups and the downs — as part of the self-organizing structure that supports the universe. So I sat fully in every experience and trauma that came my way. To me, this was the womb of the feminine, allowing time, gestation, heat and nurturing to bring forth something new. Llewelyn Vaughn-Lee states, “Without the feminine nothing new can be born, nothing new can come into existence—we will remain caught in the materialistic images of life that are polluting our planet and desecrating our souls. We need to return to the core of our being, to where the sacred comes into existence. And the mystical feminine holds the key to this work of redemption and transformation.” I know that is the work I’m here to do. I also know my presence is enough, and the willingness to hold my own pain is a ripple that is the change required in the world.

Legacy of the Heart

As I deepened and expanded my heart space, more memories, pain and suffering began to rise. I had no idea what had been buried there. Legacy of the Heart confirmed the resilience of my human spirit in the face of sorrow and supported rediscovering natural vitality, creativity, and joy through acknowledging the importance of the heart and being attuned to it. I inherently knew that my numbness was a weakness, and fully feeling a strength. Through Muller’s writing, I felt my own heart speaking to me.

The Yoga of Relationship

I was clear that my greatest gifts were relationships, particularly the most challenging. Those relationships stretched me, pulled on me, weighted me down and helped me to break. They were gifts. What broke was what needed to break; the things that were not real and true for me. World-renowned yoga master Amrit Desai offers piercing insight into the nature of relationships as a road map to fulfillment. This book completely confirmed what I believed and supported my growing love, compassion and forgiveness of myself and others as I deepened in intimacy with my more authentic self.

The Sacred Ego

As a Pisces, I swim in the depths of the shadow nature and explore curiously the realms of self. My experiences taught me to love, accept and cherish every part of me, especially my shadow and the ego. They became sacred to me and Jalaja’s book spoke to my soul. It held the many parts, especially the ego in the light. It approaches the ego as a sacred function worthy of honor and gratitude.

The New Divine Feminine

My life has taken me to grand highs and the lowest of lows. On that ride, I met many aspects of myself and became intimate with the sacredness of my light and dark sides. Life took me through these many faces, and the full embrace of each one allowed me to draw confidence and strength from them, and trust in my own soul voice and vision. Meghan Don’s book brought a deepened richness and confirmation to my experience by naming ‘Light and Dark Faces of the Daughter, the Mother, the Crone or Grandmother, and the Pure Virgin or Enlightened Being of one’s true nature.’

Love Without Conditions

Paul is one of my all-time favorite authors. His writings are pure and truth-filled. This book helped bring my understanding from the head to the heart so that I could engage and integrate deeper love and forgiveness. After reading this book, it felt as if a film had been wiped from my eyes; and I had been held and spoken to by a loving brother. This was deeply healing at that time of my life and is a wonderful beginner or intermediate book for someone growing and healing.

Letting Go of Good

Perfectionism, pleasing, shame, acceptance and self-Love have been lifelong deep areas of personal growth work for me. The more that fell away… the more subtle was revealed. Andrea Mathew’s book spoke a truth that resonated deeply with the healing and growth work I had done. Particularly resonant was ‘how to understand and dialogue with emotions, develop intuition and discernment, and make decisions from a place of honest desire and compassion.’

Belonging to God

Communion and an ongoing dialogue with the infinite is my ultimate love affair in life. When I find books that give me a visceral experience of that communion or heart expansion I experience awakening to the power of love all over again. Will Keepin emphasizes the transforming fire that burns on every level from macrocosm to the microcosm, thereby uniting the human soul with the heart of God.

Anam Cara

After experiencing what felt like emulsifying and coming back into form, I had a strong sense of the ‘lover and beloved’ union. The process to get there felt like many deaths and this book felt as it had been a sacred recording of the experience. This was the most profound experience of receiving a book that mirrored what I had just moved through; it felt like a love letter from Source. In Anam Cara, Gaelic for “soul friend,” the ancient teachings, stories, and blessings of Celtic wisdom provided such profound insights on the universal themes of friendship, solitude, love, and death.
