Melissa Monte

Melissa Monte is the host of Mind Love, a top-ranked podcast with over 5 million downloads that explores consciousness, storytelling, and what it actually means to wake up. After her own journey through addiction, a felony conviction for someone else’s crime, and the slow work of rebuilding from scratch, she discovered something powerful: the stories we’re most ashamed of usually contain our greatest medicine. Through Mind Love, her company Story Love™, and her upcoming book The Story of Consciousness, she helps people recognize they’re not victims of their circumstances but authors of their reality. Her work strips away spiritual bypassing to get real about transformation—because consciousness isn’t about perfection, it’s about showing up as everything you are.

My 10 Best

(In no particular order)

Loving What Is

I give this book to people who are struggling and standing at the edge of their awakening. Not the kind of struggle where you’re just venting. The kind where life is breaking you open. Byron Katie has this way of helping you see your own BS without making you feel like a failure. This book taught me that most of my suffering was coming from believing my thoughts… and I believed everything my mind said. It’s simple, but it’ll hit you where it hurts—in a good way.

The Untethered Soul

This one’s for when you’re ready to go deeper. Like actually understand what it means to be the observer. It’s not just “watch your thoughts” woo-woo fluff. It’s a gut-check on where you’re outsourcing your peace. Every sentence is like a mirror that shows you where you’re gripping too tight. I reread it every time I forget I’m not my emotions. Which… happens more than I’d like to admit.

I Am the Word

Paul’s work cracked open a whole new layer of knowing for me. It’s channeled, sure—but the language is grounded and sharp. This book hit different. It was one of the first times I felt the energy of the words themselves shift something in me. There’s something about how he talks about alignment that made me stop waiting for permission and start being who I came here to be.

A Happy Pocket Full Of Money

The title sounds ridiculous, I know. Like some outdated Law of Attraction gimmick. But don’t be fooled—this one goes deeper into the science of spirituality than most books people call “deep.” Quantum physics. Identity. Time. It breaks your brain in the best way and makes you question what you’ve been chasing. It’s about money… but really, it’s about reality.

The Second Coming of Christ

This book changed my life within the first 10 pages. I’m not exaggerating. It gave me back a version of Jesus I could finally understand. Not the weaponized version. Not the guilt-soaked version. But the mystic. The teacher of unity. I’ve always loved books that decode the deeper meaning behind sacred texts. Yogananda doesn’t just translate scripture—he resurrects it.

A Course in Miracles

I found this early in my spiritual awakening, and honestly… it scared the hell out of me at first. The language was intense. But once I got past that, it started to unhook a lot of religious programming I didn’t even know I was carrying. It gave me new words for old wounds. And it helped me come back to God—not as a judge, but as love itself.

Little Soul and the Sun – a children’s book

Yes, it’s a children’s book. And yes, every adult needs to read it. Especially if you’re struggling with resentment or conflict. I send this to friends when they’re stuck in blame. It explains the law of reflection more clearly than most grown-up books ever could. It’s short. It’s sweet. And it might wreck you in the best way.

Stranger in a Strange Land

Technically sci-fi. Spiritually… kind of a holy text. This book follows the crucifixion archetype in a way that’s wild and weird and way too real. It shows what happens when a pure being tries to live in a world that doesn’t know what to do with truth. I read it when I need to feel less alone in how strange it feels to wake up in a world that still thinks it’s asleep.

Secrets of Divine Love

This book was a bridge for me. I had a spiritual connection, but I still had this wall up when it came to religion. This book helped knock that wall down. It opened my eyes to the heart of Islam in a way that was so beautiful and true, it made me cry. It reminded me that all the world’s wisdom traditions are pointing to the same love. We just get distracted by the packaging.

Setting God Free

I wish more people knew about this book. It’s one of the clearest, kindest takedowns of punitive religion I’ve ever read. Father Seán keeps the sacred, but throws out the shame. He talks about God in a way that feels expansive… like coming home. If you’ve been burned by church, but still crave something divine, this one will help you reconnect without the dogma.
