BARBARA HAND CLOW is an internationally acclaimed astrologer, ceremonial teacher, author, and visionary leader in Mayan Calendar research. She majored in philosophy at Seattle University, then behavioral psychology at the University of Washington, Seattle, and then began extensive reading and study of Reichian, Freudian and Jungian Psychology.
In 1969, she discovered that astrology was an exceedingly accurate diagnostic tool, and she began her study and practice of astrology. In 1982-83, she earned a Master’s degree in theology and healing with Matthew Fox in Chicago, and her thesis compared Jungian psychoanalytic technique and past life regression therapy.
Having taught at sacred sites throughout the world, Barbara Hand Clow believes that with the completion of the 2012 Mayan Calendar, we are now in the midst of a critical evolutionary leap that inspires us to heal our bodies and commune with our souls. As we awaken the Universe, we are being flooded with advanced spiritual knowledge that leaves many of us feeling ungrounded and disoriented.
The author of numerous books, including The Mayan Code, The Pleiadian Agenda, Awakening the Planetary Mind, Catastraphobia, Astrology and the Rising of Kundalini, and Alchemy of Nine Dimensions, Barbara aims to help people transmute their emotional blocks and clarify their minds.
Her latest work, Revelations of the Aquarian Age, is a one-of-a-kind initiatic trilogy that has been purposefully and intelligently constructed based on ancients teachings and astrological wisdom not just to entertain but also to educate, illuminate, and physically, emotionally, and energetically move us out of fear-based 4th dimensuonal consciousness to the higher dimensions.

Journey of Souls
This is an important book because in 1998 one of my children died. My second son who was a biologist drowned while he was doing research on Native Trout. I was bereft; I had four children. His wife, who is still very close to me, recommended this book since she thought it would help because it helped her. It was incredibly helpful because the problem I was having when Matthew died, was “where is he?” It’s that horrible feeling that anybody who’s lost a child understands the anxiety that comes from not knowing where your child is. First of all, Dr. Newton was a hypnotherapist and a psychologist, and in his career, he kept noticing all the people who were in therapy with him who were going into past lives. Then he noticed that a certain number of people end up going into the period between one lifetime and another—between death and the last lifetime and the current incarnation. He realized that he needed to write about what those people were finding out there, so he devoted 10 years of his therapy time and started mapping the universe at the end of one life and before the beginning of the next one. The book had a profound influence on me because it shows how we consciously choose our next lifetime and how we chose to be here based on various aspects of our experience. As a result of that book, I felt I understood where my child was. After I really absorbed the book, I was more in contact with him than I ever was before. I was invested in being in contact with him—not to hold him back—I just wanted to be with his spirit and this book helped me to access him again. As far as I know, the way Dr. Newton handled this was a new concept for almost everybody; this was a real breakthrough. Once I made that breakthrough and realized that consciousness exists between lifetimes, I started to find the idea in other places. Now there’s a whole school of therapists. I’ve done a few sessions and traveled a bit in those realms and it’s fascinating, intense, and very spiritually enlightening.
Not in His Image
Ever since the Nag Hammadi scrolls were found, we’ve wanted to understand Gnosticism, and I had to read this book three times to understand it. It’s called a Gnostic block, which is a really hard thing to get through, but Gnosticism as a religion and a theology, has been completely distorted by 95% of the scholarship that exists in Gnosticism. The reason I recommend it is because of John Lamb Lash’s understanding of the Archons. Two things that are important in Gnostic theology. One is, we are being influenced and controlled by Archons. There’s a whole complex issue of how they got into our world but the Archons are basically the archetypes of the planets and I’m an astrologer so when I wrote my trilogy to explore the influence of astrology on the characters, a minor but present theme, I was thrown into a complete dark night of the soul. What started my trilogy is that I looked ahead in 2011 to try to figure out what was going to be happening in the next 10 or 15 years and I could see our culture and society were going to crack in 2020 because of a series of planetary transits. When I wrote the trilogy and tracked that building of disaster, I was shocked to see that I was right. It’s so profoundly shocking to me that it was actually possible to see that through planetary analysis. I first read this book around 2003. When I looked more deeply into this issue, and what the Gnostics were specifically concerned about, I found that up until around 2,000 years ago, we understood that the Archons were controlling and affecting us; it was called fate. People were taught spiritual teachings for how to transcend the Archons and use them at the highest level. Then, when Christianity came along, it basically crushed Gnosticism, assuming that Christian authorities had the right to take control of people’s spirituality. They squashed the entire teachings about transcending the Archons, and rising to another level, and I think what we see in the world today is a direct result of that disaster. John Lash’s book helped me understand for the first time what the Gnostics were really saying because their teachings were so completely distorted and criticized that they were basically lost to us until this book. That’s why I call it the Gnostic block. The Archons sound like the weirdest, extraterrestrial banana heads that ever landed on the earth.
Psychology and Alchemy
Fortunately, I didn’t read this until 15 years ago or so and the reason I say ‘fortunately’ is because I would never have bothered to write my book The Alchemy of 9 Dimensions if I had read this. At the same time, The Alchemy of 9 Dimensions is a different book than this and has a lot of value in it. It’s just that Jung so thoroughly enables us to understand alchemy as a transformative, personal process. People think we need to sit around in a laboratory and try to turn lead into gold, and medieval alchemists were working with metals in that way to understand consciousness, but I don’t see any need to do that in our day and age. Alchemy, which is the transmutation of consciousness to higher levels of awareness, is something that all of us should pursue – the ultimate approach to transmutational consciousness.
Memories, Dreams, Reflections
I have a new copy of this because my other copy got so dog-eared that it finally collapsed in my hands. This is by far the best access to Jung’s personal psychology and personal reality. It’s about how the things he was working on influenced his life and his thinking. He wrote it when he was 80 years old at the end of his lifetime with the help of another person. I almost became a Jungian analyst and I just turned 80 a few months ago and almost wish I had because what a great thing to do from age 80 to 95. Understanding Jungian is very difficult because of translation problems and mostly because of the complexity of his thought. This book is the best introduction to Jung for the average reader because he’s really speaking from the heart about what he really experienced and what he believed.
Stalking the Wild Pendulum
This is a book whose time has come. Bentov’s not a scientist, but he is scientific., and he described the holographic universe in a simple way. Bentov’s book provides a way to understand materialism and consciousness that is way far advanced beyond contemporary science. I think reading Stalking the Wild Pendulum would almost shift anybody’s consciousness radically because it’s simple. There’s a lot of simple drawings he made himself and he really nailed it. This is a quote in Michael Talbot’s The Holographic Universe by Itzhak Bentov: “We human beings consider ourselves to be made up of solid matter. Actually, the physical body is the end product so to speak, of the subtle information fields which mold our physical body as well as all physical matter. These fields are holograms which change in time and are outside the breach of our normal senses. This is what clairvoyants perceive as colorful egg-shaped halos or auras surrounding our physical bodies.” I think this gives a pretty good sense of where his brain went. And there’s personal tragedy connected with him that led to my reading the book. My husband was also in publishing. In the 1970s, he was working for Rand McNally in Chicago when Itzhak Bentov, and coincidentally many of the Rand McNally staff were killed in a terrible plane crash. My husband was supposed to be on that plane too, so when I found out from a friend that Itzhak Bentov had crashed on that plane, I got ahold of this book immediately and was astonished by it.
The Holographic Universe
Today, nearly everyone is familiar with holograms, three-dimensional images projected into space with the aid of a laser. Now, two of the world’s most eminent thinkers—University of London physicists David Bohm, a former protege of Einstein’s and one of the world’s most respected quantum physicists, and Stanford neurophysiologist Karl Pribram, one of the architects of our modern understanding of the brain—believe that the universe itself may be a giant hologram, quite literally a kind of image or construct created, at least in part, by the human mind. This remarkable new way of looking at the universe explains not only many of the unsolved puzzles of physics, but also such mysterious occurrences as telepathy, out-of-body and near death experiences, “lucid” dreams, and even religious and mystical experiences such as feelings of cosmic unity and miraculous healings.
The End of Time—The Next Revolution in Physics
This is a classic physics book—hard to read. When I read physics books, I have to read them three times. What Barbour did was to upend physics in terms of making advances in thought. We all have to deal with time. What Julian Barbour was interested in proving is that there is a dimension where there is no time and the 6th dimension is synonymous with this one, sacred geometry. What happens with sacred geometry is that the forms of sacred geometry themselves are eternal and create realities. He calls this dimension in his system, Platonia and this is the key because this book and my work in The Alchemy of 9 Dimensions are based on Plato, who worked out how the non-physical realm influences us in our dimension, which is solid materialism and time. What Barbour managed to show by means of gauge theory, classic physics, was what happens in this timeless dimension called Platonia, is that our thoughts create the energy. He actually managed to show that our thoughts collect in this timeless dimension and influence us in this realm. Now that’s a very subtle concept, but what’s important about it is that a physicist has actually proved the real existence of the spiritual realm that communicates to us through sacred geometry. It’s an extremely important book but the only way you work with it is if you care about that issue which I definitely do. It may also be the future—many people are working right now to move their consciousness into the 5th dimension. You’ve got some books that talk about the 5th dimension influencing and us moving out of this polarity we’re in. This is the next dimension above so I strongly suspect that until people really move to the 5th dimension, they’re not really going to start looking to this.
Cataclysm!
We’ve been going through a 50-year discovery of cataclysmic theory. Immanuel Velikovski broke the ice because until then, all the geological changes in the world were just slow and never-changing. Then cataclysmic theory came in and showed that we have periodic cataclysms followed by periods of more peaceful, slow growth. Delair is basically a geologist and Allen was basically a theoretical scientist. In this book they prove that there was a huge cataclysm 12,000 years ago which we know of in our society as the fall of Atlantis. The reason this book was so significant to me is because I was trained by my Cherokee grandfather who was a Record Keeper, and I explored hundreds of thousands of years of time with him. And he insisted that this cataclysm was real, that Atlantis is actually a true story, and that we have a type of post-traumatic stress over this cataclysm. At this point, we’ve made the breakthrough and now everybody knows these cataclysms are real—particularly this recent one. I wrote a book called Catastrophobia, which is now being retitled as Awakening the Planetary Mind and the thesis is what my grandfather told me when I was a little child, that we are a traumatized species, because we all have our story and we were being blocked from the real story about cataclysms. This is exactly the same as therapy to awaken people’s past memory of trauma so they can get beyond it. I wrote Catastrophobia—a word that means fear of catastrophes—in order to deal with this. Right now, people are way too fearful because they don’t realize what happened in the past. If you take the fear from the past and project it into the present time then you have a disaster which is what’s going on right now.
Hidden Records: The Star of the Gods
This is a complicated book that contains a lot of pictures and drawings, and an incredible compendium of what various ancient artifacts actually mean, along with various star maps, such as the Giza Plateau in Egypt being a star map of Orion. It took 20 years to get this information to a point where people now know this. Wayne Herschel reads these star maps and explains how this relates to connections with a location in the sky, a star, that completely altered human consciousness 17,500 years ago. This really caught my eye because toward the end of his life, Carl Sagan said that there’s anthropological information indicating that there was a profound shift in human consciousness toward more intelligence—more of a mental development, 17,500 years ago. Another author, Andrew Collins, works with the idea that there’s a pulsating star in the universe called Signus X that affected human consciousness 17,500 years ago and changed the actual genetic intelligence of humans. Wayne Herschel says that we all are descended from that point when there was such an extreme shift in human consciousness. There’s a bit of anthropological evidence of this that I’ve foundand dealt with it from various points of view in my own work. Something really happened at that point and the reason why I think this is important is because we’re all sensing that something’s got to happen very soon. We are at such a dead end, up against a wall, and the fact that this happened 17,500 years ago and it’s still detectable by some people tells me that it can happen again.
Twelve-Tribe Nations
Twelve-Tribe Nations is the ultimate book on how the surface of our planet is connected with higher dimensions and how we can do things to enhance this potential. It is about a period on our planet where the authors say there was a golden age, and show us what life was like at this time. There’s archeological and anthropological evidence for all of this—even satellite photography. I think The golden age was the age of Gemini, which was 6,000-8,000 years ago. It was in an air sign and now we’re moving into the Age of Aquarius, another air sign, and I think both are enlightened ages. During the Age of Gemini, the megalithic people drew, at the center of geographical zones—sacred centers, like Delphi , Avebury, or Stonehenge—gigantic wheels (huge circles) that they divided it into 12 parts of the zodiac. And at times like the Spring Equinox they would go to that particular part of the circle and do theatre, wear costumes, read literature, and use art in order to awaken that sector of consciousness. The other thing that was especially important to John Michell, was sound. Now in my system, those wheels divided into 12 parts are the 6th dimension on the surface of the Earth and they’re obviously geometrical. When you use sound, which in my system is 7th dimension, you can activate the geometry. If we go back to this issue of the 6th dimension and The End of Time by Julian Barbour, he proved by physics that the 6th dimension of the geometrical realm is actually affected by our consciousness. He called this the “Mist in Platonia.” He said what we think about creates the mist in Platonia, so if we’re thinking about something and working with it, it intensifies. John Michell also says that sound from a higher dimension activates the geometry. Twelve-Tribe Nations is a very beautiful, experiential book.
